The lingering pandemic has forced tourism companies to shift from relying on income from international tourists to income generated from domestic tourists. The 27th Thailand International Travel Fair (TITF) therefore focuses on promoting 'premium' domestic activities to help boost the economy and Thailand's tourism scene.
This year's TITF will be held under the concept of “premium style” as organizers and exhibitors recognize the need to rely on domestic tourism amidst the slump in overseas travel. The fair is organized by the Thailand Travel Agents Association and features visitor booths by travel agents, hotels, tourist attractions, car rental companies, airlines, embassies, food vendors and OTOP retailers.
Tourism and Sports Minister Piphat Ratchakitprakan said after launching the fair at Bangkok's Icon Siam mall that the past two years have been difficult for the tourism industry. He also said the Omicron variant had temporarily delayed the Thai government's reopening of the country to international travelers, so more time was needed to realize revenue from foreign tourists. . He further pointed out that tourism will need to rely on domestic spending, especially from now until early next year.
The minister said the 27th TITF targets tourists on long trips, and the fair is expected to circulate between 100 million and 300 million baht. Meanwhile, airlines and other businesses offer promotional discounts aimed at providing income to local communities. Ten communities, each with a distinct identity and uniqueness, will be exhibiting at the fair.
Visitors can browse around 300 booths at the 27th TITF on the 7th floor of Iconsiam until Sunday (December 26). (NNT)
