A bystander was involved in the arrest of a West Kelowna man who allegedly threatened a security guard with a knife.
Kelowna RCMP say officers were called to the 1500 block of Banks Road Monday night just after 10 p.m.
There, the suspect was found pinned down and taken into custody by officers.
Kelowna RCMP said: “Through conversations with witnesses, officers determined that the male became aggressive and spat in the face of a security guard when he was asked to leave the premises.” said.
“The security guard attempted to arrest the man who fell to the ground, during which time the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to harm the security guard with it.”
Police said a bystander intervened and prevented the suspect from using the knife and helped subdue the suspect until officers arrived.
Kelowna RCMP say the suspect, 49, was arrested on suspicion of assault, menacing and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was held overnight but released on Tuesday with a court date set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
“This individual's behavior was alarming and police recommended that he be taken into custody to prevent similar behavior from occurring,” the corporal said. Michael Gauthier.
“Fortunately, no security personnel or other bystanders were injured in this violent act.
“Our office continues to work with the B.C. Prosecuting Attorney's Office to ensure police have done everything possible to keep our communities safe.”
