Current ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Mussi is just starting out in the world of Muay Thai, but he's already seeing many benefits.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu superstar, who just won a bonus for Shinya Aoki at ONE Fight Night 15, was recently seen learning the “art of the eight limbs” from some of Thailand's finest strikers, including former ONE bantamweight Muay Thai. It has been witnessed. World champion Hama Non-O.
While 'Darth Rigatoni' was certainly happy and grateful to be rubbing shoulders with Muay Thai royalty, he was even more excited to train alongside the young rising stars at the famous PK Saenchai camp.
he said onefc.com:
“My favorite part of living in Thailand for the past two months was spending time at PK Saenchai because it had all these up-and-coming, young, hungry fighters and we all trained together in the gym. .
“So whenever I was there, I felt that abrasive, tough emotional energy of them.”
Widely regarded as the most accomplished American-born Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter in history and currently the face of submission grappling in ONE Championship, Moussi has little left to accomplish with his ground game.
But the 27-year-old has found new motivation in Muay Thai, inspired by the culture of hard work and brotherhood in the striking arts.
And while he won't be throwing punches and kicks in his next fight, perhaps sometime in the future, he's bringing a Muay Thai mentality to his grappling sessions.
“Even though you are suffering from death, [in Muay Thai training], so do others, so friendship is born. You're going to die, but it's not that hard because you're all dying together, and you'll be hungry. Everyone comes to training every day, so why don't you? You will be motivated because you will be there too.
“I love the energy of the Muay Thai people, and I try to bring that energy into Jiu-Jitsu.”
Muay Thai says Muay Thai is the “secret” to improving conditioning
Mikey Musumeshi plans to use Muay Thai training to improve his overall fitness level, as well as provide extra motivation.
The New Jersey native is already famous for his epic, multi-hour jiu-jitsu training sessions, but he says Muay Thai trains his body in a whole new way.
“Muay Thai is great for conditioning. This is my next secret that I use to condition Jiu-Jitsu. When I do Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu feels like the easiest thing ever.”
A true master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques, Musumeci has improved physical conditioning and is a formidable proposition for a challenger to the flyweight submission grappling title.
And according to Darth Rigatoni, the all-out, all-out mentality found in Muay Thai takes his endurance to the next level.
he added:
“Dude, you're going to die. It's like pure power and sprinting. Every punch and kick is 100 percent force. So you do Jiu-Jitsu training and you're smiling. For your body, There is nothing more difficult than this.”
